  • The Great Mosque (Ulu Camii)

The Great Mosque is the most magnificent mosque and one of the most important historical buildings in Bursa. As Evliya Çelebi wrote, this is the Hagia Sophia of Bursa. It was built by Bayezid I in 1396-1400. The Great Mosque is one of the oldest mosques of the Turkish Islam world, which consists of an area of 5,000 square meters and which is covered by 20 domes. The pulpit of the mosque symbolizes the universe as a whole and each planet is at the right place in terms of their distance to the Sun and the comparisons of size among each other with their orbit movements and the form of global embossed motives. In this respect, it has a surprising characteristic.
